Dear QAS Families,

As we head into the final days of the 2024 – 2025 School year, there are still some important events yet to come. We hope that you will be able to attend and join in the celebrations!

Friday, June 20th at 9:00 a.m. – will be the Farewell Mass for our Grade 7 students. At the end of Mass, the Grade 7 students will “pass the leadership” to the Grade 6 students. We will also honour a Grade 6 student with the Ms. Laurie Marconato Spirit Award.

Dismissal is at 11:50 a.m. on this day.

Wednesday, June 25th – please send along a large garbage bag with your child. Students will be taking home all supplies and belongings on this day.

Thursday, June 26th from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. – will be report card pick up. You may come at the time that is most convenient for your family. If you are not able to come, please assign another family to pick up your child’s report card. Students are not required to wear their uniform on this day.

The “Grade tables” will be set up in the gym.

The lost and found will also be set up in the gym. Please check the lost and found, as there are many items. Any items left behind will be donated to charity.

Changes for next year…

We welcome Mr. L. Basso to our staff. Mr. Basso has been teaching and part of the Administration team at Our Lady of Sorrows School for the last number of years. He worked at QAS as an EA prior to becoming a teacher. Mr. Basso also attended QAS as a student. Welcome home Mr. Basso!

We are excited to continue with the use of the UFLI resource in K to Grade 4 next year. We have seen much growth in ELA with our Primary students. The Grade 4 class will continue with the resource to make a strong transition to the Intermediate grades.

Our “Grade 6/7 team” of teachers will be working with both classes next year. This will be similar “middle school model”, where students will remain with their grade group, but the teachers will focus on specific subjects for each grade. Mr. Basso will focus on Math/Science/ADST. Mrs. Csomor will focus on ELA -writing/speaking and Socials (6)

Mrs. Epplette will focus on ELA – Reading and Socials (7). All teachers will teach Christian Education.

We are excited to be able to offer our older students a variety of learning and leadership opportunities that will be developmentally responsive, challenging and empowering for them.

With the full-time equivalent of two Learning Support teachers, we are looking forward to expanding our ability to meet students where they are at and support them within the classroom, in both English Language Arts and Math.

At this point of the school year, our staff are tired and ready for a well-deserved break. However, we are looking forward to next year!

Ms. J. Sandberg
Principal
