Dear Parents,
Thanks to those drivers who are travelling through the parking lot areas slowly. Our supervisors are reporting much cooperation. Remember that we need to work together to keep everyone, especially our children.
Once again, the CISVA has updated the Elementary Schools report card. This will bring the CISVA in-line with the intentions of the revised BC Curriculum, that parents see how their child is progressing throughout the year. The report card will look much the same as in previous years:
1. The opening paragraph will be a recognition of the student’s strengths.
2. The student’s work and skills will be assessed a level of proficiency. These will indicate the extent to which a student has independently demonstrated and developed the necessary knowledge, competencies and understandings based on the most recent and consistent evidence. Letter grades will not be included in report cards.
3. The closing of the report will be clearly stated manageable activities, strategies, and/or resources that will directly support student growth.
4. Student self-reflections will be included in the third term report only.
The major difference will be that the learning standards will remain consistent throughout the year so that parents can see the progress. What changes is the content area.
For example, a learning standard in English Language Arts might be:
“Engages actively as a listener, a viewer and a reader to make meaning” (The learning standard remains throughout the year).
The content or activities the class studies changes from term to term– in first term, the students are reading a variety of short stories. In the second term, the students are doing a novel study. In the third term, the class is reading a variety of poetry.
