Dear Parents,
As was mentioned last week during the Meet the Teacher Night, our teachers have been discussing homework. I want to provide you with some guidelines as to what the teachers are recommending and experiencing.
1. Homework should be practice – examples include learning letters, math facts, math concepts, spelling words. Reading– students who read regularly stand out in their knowledge, spelling, comprehension and writing skills. Preparation – reviewing concepts or review for a quiz/test.
2. Primary students (K to Gr. 3) should expect 15 minutes of homework a night. Grade 4 and 5 students 30 minutes. Grade 6 and 7 students 45 minutes.
These times are approximate depending on the night of the week or weekends or the student’s focus.
3. Students should be able to complete their homework by themselves, with the need for little parent help.
4. Students and their parents should decide on a time and a place that works best for homework to be completed.
5. Students who are learning these time management skills are showing growth in their understanding and confidence. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for your support,
Ms. Sandberg
Principal
