Dear QAS Families,
Well we are back! It is great to see everyone once again. Welcome to all of our new families. We are excited to have you in our QAS family. Please reach out to others if you have any questions.
The month of September will be filled with many events:
Friday School Masses – We are able to resume school Masses, in the church, with the whole school present. We will begin with our first Mass on Friday, September 10 at 9:00 a.m. Following the PHO orders and those of the Archbishop, all who enter the church must wear a mask. This includes all students from Kindergarten to Grade 7. As Mass is also a parish event, parents are able to attend.
Meet the Teacher Night – This 30-minute Zoom session with your child’s teacher will take place on:
Monday, September 13 – 7:00 p.m. Kindergarten; 7:30 p.m. Grade 1
Tuesday, September 14 – 7:00 p.m. Grade 7; 7:30 p.m. Grade 6
Wednesday, September 15 – 7:00 p.m. Grade 5; 7:30 p.m. Grade 2
Thursday, September 16 – 7:00 p.m. Grade 3; 7:30 p.m. Grade 4
Your child’s teacher will send you a Zoom invite prior to the meeting.
Terry Fox Run – Our Grade 7 class will lead our run on Monday, September 20th, in the afternoon. Further information will follow. However, due to the COVID-19 protocols, we will not be able to have spectators.
First Communion – Will take place on Saturday, September 25th at 10:30 a.m. This will be for all students who were in Grade 2 last school year (and those in other Grades who were preparing). Further information will be sent to those families.
Individual Student Photos – Monday, September 27th, in the morning. Students will come to school in the summer uniform on this day.
Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day – This is a new Federal statutory holiday (declared on June 30, 2021). As a result, there will be no classes in CISVA schools on Thursday, September 30th.
All students and staff will be asked to wear orange to school on Wednesday, September 29th. All classes will be discussing the reason for this day of remembrance.
CISVA Elementary Athletic Commission Update – The CISVA EAC and the CISVA Administrator’s Association wants Individual and team sports to resume this fall. However, there will be a few changes, again due to COVID-19. The concerns are around transportation, large crowds, and restrictions on entering schools.
Cross Country – practices will take place in PE classes. The CISVA meet will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at Swangard Stadium, Burnaby. To reduce crowding at the stadium, only students in Grades 2 to 7 will be eligible this year. Only 3 boys and 3 girls per age group will be able to attend. There will be no fun run held this year. We will be renting a bus to transport our students to the stadium. Families will be required to arrange transportation home.
Boys Soccer – there will be teams for boys in Grades 4 to 7. All will play 8 v. 8 format. The usual league game format will continue. The CISVA Big 8 Final will be held. Spectators will be allowed but asked to spread out.
Girls and Boys Volleyball – Girls teams (Grades 4 to 7) will practice during September and October. A single qualifying tournament will be held in each zone. The winner of the zone tournament will advance to the CISVA Big 8 Final. Spectators will not be allowed.
Boys teams (Grades 4 to 7) will practice in October. A single qualifying tournament will be held in each zone. The winner of the zone tournament will advance to the CISVA Big 8 Finals. Spectators will not be allowed.
Permission slips and further information will be sent home via email for Soccer and Volleyball. We look forward to seeing our athletes representing QAS once again. Permission slips for the Cross Country meet will be sent home, once it is determined who will represent our school.

Fraser Health Letter – See attached letter from Fraser Health regarding B.C.’s Vaccination Status reporting regulation for students. This letter is about vaccines given in the school setting and not about the COVID vaccine.
Walkathon T-Shirt Design Contest – Each student is invited to submit a design for this year’s Walkathon T-shirt! The winner will receive a $50 Coquitlam Center gift card. See attached letter for more information.
Extra Masks – We encourage all students to carry an extra mask in their backpacks. Some masks go missing or get broken during the school day. As well, as you know masks will be mandatory for all students to wear for school mass. For younger students that are not required to wear a mask at school, they should have one in their bags for Friday masses.
Thank-you
