School Updates – February 23rd, 2022

Dear Parents,

Next week we will be beginning the Lenten Season. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd. Ashes will be distributed to all students.

We will also continue our tradition of the “Rice Bowl” lunch at noon. All students and staff will receive a bowl of rice, prepared by our Hot Foods team. This is a way to offer a sacrifice on this day. It is also a reminder of how many people in our world live on a daily basis, when one bowl of rice a day is all that they may eat each day. Students may still bring in a snack for recess but are asked to accept the “Rice Bowl Challenge” at lunch and just eat rice and drink water.

During the Lenten Season, in all of our classes, we will be discussing Lent and finding opportunities for more prayer and reflection, as we journey towards Easter. We will keep you informed of the many activities, through our weekly updates.

Take care,
J. Sandberg
Principal

Basketball

Congratulations to our Grade 6 Girls team who won the St. Catherine’s tournament yesterday. The girls played very well and had fun. Way to go QAS!

Our Grade 7 Girls and Boys teams will be playing the first round of playoffs tomorrow. Spectators will not be allowed in the gym, as per the CISVA Elementary Athletic Commission.

Parents should note that if our teams win their game tomorrow and advance to the Big 8, spectators will be allowed at the Richmond Oval on Tuesday, March 1st. However, the City of Richmond has informed the CISVA EAC that all spectators will be required to show a BC vaccination passport in order to enter the building. There will also be a 50% capacity limit within the building.

Good luck to our teams!

CARNIVAL COMMITTEE:    It looks like Carnival is a go this year!  We need to get the carnival committee together asap and start planning this family friendly event. The FIRST organization meeting is next Thursday, February 24th at 7pm on ZOOM.

RE-REGISTRATION

It is already that time of year! Re-registration packages will be going home with your youngest child later this week or early next week. Completed packages are due back to the school by Wednesday, March 9th. A late charge of $50 will be charged for packages received after that date.

Thank-you
